Wow, amazing how time just seems to fly! With December about right around the corner, this year is coming to a close. I hope everyone that celebrates Thanksgiving, had a great time with family and friends that just recently passed by.

In any industry and with any business, you can’t sit still you always have be on the move if you want to be successful and keep your company moving forward. With that in mind, we have been working hard on many different fronts. I’ll start off with our new revised web site that will be released soon. One of the things that it lacks is more information currently. With more services being offered right now then what is listed as well as new services that are going to be offered a newer revised site that will better display all of this information was needed. We hope to have this finished soon, I am pretty excited!

New high performance servers, we just got some more of them and boy are they are quick! They handle the load really well and web sites just scream! We have made sure all of our servers run 1000Mpbs connections so that you truely are getting the fastest speed available to your customers add that with multiple extremely fast fiber connections and you get a great combination that speeds up your hosted applications.

The hosting plans continue to get better, watch out for even better plans across the board as well as the introduction of new plans with new features added further giving you more bang for your buck. Our reseller plans especially are getting very beefed up, and I believe are very competitive with the amount of features you are getting. Resellers especially are always looking to find more ways to increase their bottom line so the amount of value added services is especially important and working to offer the most complete solution to affordable reseller web hosting online. Some of our resellers are telling us they are making a good amount of easy extra income from reselling our merchant accounts using the free reseller program offered to resellers. With so many e-commerce web sites online selling about anything you can imagine, why not make some easy money. You get your money automatically deposited into your bank account monthly and all you have to do is refer your own e-commerce clients to use one of the best merchant accounts online. Every month you get a percentage of the processing fees for the life of the account! Doing business online, you need to be able to process credit cards if you aren’t you are at a huge disadvantage loosing a good amount of sales. While services like PayPal are good, they don’t substitute having your own merchant account if you are serious about doing business online.

Updates…

Things are rolling! Watch out, many new updates this time around. Let’s see where to start…

As everyone now knows, we have cPanel 11 installed on the servers and have gotten great responses from everyone after the update.

Here is a little overview from the cPanel site, “cPanel and WHM 11 brings the most extensive update ever to the cPanel and WHM software package. With upgrades in nearly every section of the product, this version enhances the feature packed, security minded and highly stable platform for web hosting.”

I think this was a needed update, the new look of cPanel and the amount of things you can do to it is much better. Branding is also much easier in this update, so you can customize the look of your control panel.

As with any company that expands, our sales inquiries and support has gone up so we have added more staff members to our team to keep things moving along so there is faster response times. There is some adjustment period as our new staff members get used to our work flow. I would like to encourge anybody who uses our live chat to please fill out the quick post chat survey at the end, we really do review it and do go over it to make sure everyone is on the same page and if not correct the problem before it happens again. I know for myself I’ve been putting around 14 hour work days, so the added help is much needed. There just never seems to be enough time in the day, it’s a never ending task and never helps when you demand perfection, I’m sure many people agree with me on this if you are in business. I do believe in listening to clients, and encourage you to please email me directly if there is anything that is not resolved to resolution correctly or would like to make a suggestion at derrick[at]lanehost.com. I’m always more then happy to help whenever possible.

New reseller promotion…we are offering 25% Lifetime Discount on our reseller plans (coupon code: 25OFF) plus 2 free IP’s which should cover most resellers to get setup. This offer is good till end July, so take advantage of it while it lasts!

Did I just say promotions? Look for us at many popular web hosting related sites, you should start seeing the LaneHost name! Stay tuned…

The importance of low client per server ratio
Monday April 09th 2007, 12:30 pm

It’s been a while since the blog has been updated, I think its about that time again.

I’m amazed at how high a number of clients some companies put on a server and not realize it’s only going to degrade the server after a certain point. We make sure that we keep all our servers with a LOW client per server ratio ensuring much better performance and reliability…just makes sense. This can easily be observed on your own computer by filling the computer up till its almost full, the result which is no surprise is slow performance.

“This is the coldest start we’ve had in the last five years,” KPRC Local 2 meteorologist Yanez said.

“It really looks like it’s going to be a beautiful afternoon,” Yanez said. “We are warming to a cool 52 degrees this afternoon.”

Everybody knows Houston’s weather, we are predicted to get back into the 70’s next week go figure! =)

Houston Going City Wide Wifi Using Earthlink
Thursday February 15th 2007, 8:46 pm

In what could be the biggest role out of Wifi in North America, Mayor Bill White pushed to get this on Thursday’s counsel meeting’s agenda so this can get passed quickly, with immediate building of the $60 million network upon approval from the city council.

Cost for this service would be $22 or about a little less then half of the normal cost of cable modems here in Houston. Earthlink agreed to selling to ISP’s a wholesale rate of $12 per month per subscriber. To help low-income Houstonians, Earthlink will be offering the service for only $10 a month.

If everything goes through, which it does, looks like Houston is looking at spring of 2009 for this to go live. I think most people are anxious for this, I know I am. To be able to connect anywhere, and not be just limited to certain stores or chains is going to be great.
